Some Black and White Photography

My second roll of film hanging to dry

This week’s post is going to be somewhat short, mainly due to school work. I haven’t done much the past two weeks other than work on final papers, and I’m still in a time crunch to get them done. However, I have finally started working with the camera in the photography class! I’ve taken and developed two rolls of film so far, all in black in white, so I figured instead of a long written post, I’d share some of my favorite photographs so far!

Before I dump photos on the rest of this post, I’d like to mention the other two notable events of the past two weeks. I got my stitches out from the surgery last week! Everything seems to be healing up nicely. I also (briefly) got a new roommate. The reason I say briefly is because she’s from Hungary, and is here with another study abroad program that works with the castle. Normally, they don’t room study abroad students together, as it’s better for our language skills to improve, and the fact we were roomed together at all was an error. But it was still nice getting to know her and I hope we can become good friends this coming semester.

Also, here is my video of the month:

My First Foray Into Film Photography

(Sorry if these are a bit small; the next size up made them too large to view the entire image on the screen at once. If you want to see them in more detail, you should be able to click on them).

These are (roughly) in the same order that I took them, and I can see the difference between my first roll and the second. After the first set, I learned some important aspects of film photography, like you shouldn’t set your exposure time below 1/60th of a second if you’re holding the camera, because with that long of an exposure time your hands will shake and mess up the image.

In addition, I also had a better grasp on the developing the photos the second time. Although black-and-white photography is forgiving when it comes to the development process, hence why it’s considered relatively easy, I did a better job with timing everything in the second go.

I am curious though, do any of you have a favorite photograph? Please let me know in the comments!

My favorite photo was the skeleton. Next I like the stairs and the roof tops. I also Like the monthly 1 second a day video.
